Our Studio

Based in Seattle, Washington, AS Built Studio is a woman-led architecture firm dedicated to intentional residential design and the future of Northwest living. Our work is the result of a deep, collaborative ecosystem—uniting clients, consultants, and local artisans to bring each vision to life.

From custom residences to the essential, expanding market for DADUs and smaller homes, we deliver uniquely tailored designs brought thoughtfully to life.

CORE PRINCIPLES

While every home we create is distinct, our practice remains anchored by three core principles that guide us from the first site visit to the final walkthrough.

The Analytical Foundation

Every project begins with a rigorous deep dive into the technical and financial landscape. We initiate our process with a comprehensive feasibility study—evaluating zoning compliance, and site constraints alongside budget alignment. By establishing this factual foundation before a single line is drawn, we ensure every creative decision is grounded in reality and strategic intent.

Design Within Constraints

We believe the most inspired architecture arises from a thoughtful dialogue with reality. Rather than viewing regulatory limits or budgetary parameters as obstacles, we embrace them as vital design inputs. Our role is to synthesize your program with site-specific truths, resulting in architecture that feels effortless and purposeful within its unique set of boundaries.

Process Transparency

Architecture is a journey of sequential decisions, each with lasting impact. We prioritize proactive communication to ensure you understand the “why” and “when” behind every milestone. This isn’t about handholding; it is about professional stewardship. We demystify the complexities of the build process, ensuring you feel confident and informed from start to finish.

Meet the Team

Alev Seymen | Principal Architect

Raised on the Aegean coast of Türkiye among the ancient ruins of Pergamon, Alev’s perspective was shaped early by the dialogue between human design and timeless function. After pursuing architecture at the University of Washington, she discovered her true calling in 2006: residential architecture, where architecture shapes life’s most intimate moments.

Alev’s career is defined by a commitment to the craft of the home. Following pivotal roles at Board & Vellum and Castanes Architects—a firm she now owns—she founded AS Built Studio in 2021. Her expertise lies in navigating the complex regulatory and geographic challenges of the Pacific Northwest Region, transforming unique sites into seamless, custom residences.

With award-winning work featured in The New York Times, Luxe Magazine, and Maison Française, Alev brings a rare combination of technical precision and creative empathy to every project. Whether designing a custom home or a thoughtful remodel, she excels at translating architectural complexity into client confidence.

Esma Baskurt | Architectural Designer

Raised between Türkiye and Canada, Esma brings a rich, multicultural lens to the AS Built Studio team. Her architectural journey began at Carleton University in Ontario and culminated in Istanbul, a path that allowed her to embrace a wide range of global design philosophies and technical traditions.

Since joining the firm in 2022, Esma has become an indispensable member of our studio, guiding a diverse range of projects—from intimate remodels to expansive custom builds—from their first conceptual sketches to final fruition. While her experience spans multi-family and hospitality design, she found her true calling in the residential sector, captivated by how a well-designed home can elevate the quiet, daily routines of life.

With a meticulous eye for detail and a naturally collaborative spirit, Esma works in close partnership with our clients to ensure every space is as functional as it is beautiful.
