ADU & DADU Design

Rainier DADU

Located in Columbia City, this detached accessory dwelling unit was designed for an extremely constrained 25′ x 100′ lot, with interior widths limited to just 12 feet. Despite being considered unbuildable by many, the project demonstrates how narrow infill sites can support efficient, high-quality residential design.

To meet height restrictions while achieving two stories, the DADU was designed as an “upside-down house,” partially embedded into the ground to maximize space, light, and livability.
