The Beach Ball

Set along an expansive and sparsely inhabited Pacific shoreline, this 1,150-square-foot retreat responds to a landscape of rolling dunes and wind-swept wildflowers. A compact cluster of geometric volumes echoes the minimalism of its surroundings while floating on concrete piles to preserve the shifting sand berms below.

Bold in color yet restrained in form, the house stands out against the gray Northwestern backdrop. A vivid red entry door opens to a clear central axis that frames a direct view to the ocean. This primary corridor both connects and separates the public spaces for cooking, dining, and gathering from the private zones dedicated to reading and rest.
